The city began its new life with the construction of the Volga HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION. Thousands of people came to conquer the Volga.
It happend so that the city was replaced and registrated in 216 years. It was replaced with the Zhigulevskoe Sea created by the person's hands.
In August, 1937 the government's desigion about the Kuybishevskaya Hydroelectric Power Station construction was signed. But threat and fascist aggression had appeared and interrupted its construction. In august, 21, 1950 the Decision of Ministry Council of the USSR about construction of Hydrounit on the Volga river was published in newspapers. It was a pleasant news for everybody: the country founded its forces and constructed the largest Hydroelectric Power Station in the world after having healed its wounds. For inhabitants of Stavropol there was pleasant news for the second time: the building could replace a small Volga town into the largest industrial centre of the Volga region.

Builders, engineering and equipment began arriving into the city. First of all leading roads was necessary. In autumn the automobile highway Stavropol - Kuibyshev began laying . The railway branch line was made to Syzran on the right bank, and to Kuibyshev - on the left one. The cargoes for the Hydroelectric Power Station construction wre carried. The first panelboard houses had been put in Komsomolsk in autumn, 1950. Shljuzovoj settlement (lock-gate) began building from Komsomolsk four kilometers far away. The Port settlement was founded nearby the old city on the left bank of the Volga.
